The Magic Flute

Mozart’s classic singspiel The Magic Flute is staged in a hilarious new production by Krešimir Dolenčić at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.

As Tamino is hunted my the agents of the state, he is knocked unconscious and envisions a world full of secret societies, evil queens and crazy birdwatchers as he searches for Pamina and the way back to the real world.

For The Magic Flute, we created a world of space-age advertising and government media for the opening of the show, elements of which are then remixed into huge, swirling abstract backdrops throughout Tamino’s quest, using a mix of inky footage and particle animation.

Swampy particles float into space in the new world, ink spills from the sun during the sunrise and huge swirls of liquid fire descend through the entrance of the armoured men.
