Agrippina
Robert Carsen directs Theatre an der Wien’s new staging of Handel’s Agrippina.
Set in contemporary Rome, this production of Agrippina draws inspiration from both Berlusconi and the architecture of Mussolini.
Claudio is cast as a corrupt, Berlusconi-like figure, governing from the 1940s Palazzo Della Civilta Italiana, which we recreated both in the set and as a 3D model to break up the layout of the windows and allow the corridors to continue into the distance.
Claudio and Nero both make TV appearances, using live camera on stage mixed with pre-recorded ‘state TV’ news segments. The show was run on TADW’s Pandora’s Box system.
