Schickaneder
“Schikaneder– The turbulent love story behind The Magic Flute” is a romantic musical comedy about the actor, singer, director, writer and impresario Emanuel Schikaneder and his wife, Eleonore.
The premiere of Schikaneder was held in Vienna at the Raimund Theatre, not far from the original premier of the Magic Flute, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and directed by Trevor Nunn.
The set design features Trompe-l’œil style painted backdrops and set pieces and a vast spinning backstage area. Our projected elements continued in this style, using a mix of hand painted backdrops and layered effects over 3d animation and filmed green screen footage to provide action elements. The biggest sequence in the show, the famous baloon launch at Ausberg, was a mixture of oil painting and animation.
Schikaneder was programmed and supported by the VBW team, programming on Pandora’s Box.
