Rusalka
Rusalka was staged at Royal Opera of Wallonia, Belgium in February 2024 and featured projection by Dick Straker.
Rusalka’s austere monochrome environment is coloured by fluid water and abstracted foliage projection to enhance and add vibrancy to her transitions from the natural to human worlds. Enveloped at times by a 360º, 12m high arc of string curtain, a two level palace and a descending fractured moon, these materials were used as projection mapping surfaces. Textural and complementary with the movements of the set the projection subtly reinforces the locations and dynamic forces driving Rusalka’s tragic encounter with the human world.
