The Mountaintop was a new piece of writing that won an Olivier Award for best new play in 2009. A simple two person format developed in Theatre 503 became a sellout show both there and after transfer to Trafalgar Studio 1 where the humour and tragedy of a unique imagining of the final hours Martin Luther King’s life drew praise from audience and critics alike. The projection design was low fi, low budget and shooting straight with the message, if it’s worth it say it loud and with a wide angle lens. The play had performances that stand up without support and if anything the brief projection allows a respite from both the intensity and humour of the acting.¬†One reviewer comments that the National Theatre should take note of the effective accompaniment of the video and AV work.
