National Theatre Wales returnea to its birthplace in the south Wales valleys for the first production in its fifth season – a bold, anarchic new version of Bertolt Brecht’s 1939 anti-war play performed in and around the Merthyr Labour Club.

Reimagined at the Labour Club Karaoke night, video screens around the room flick between the bar TV channels, playing live sports and cookery shows, CCTV from around the building and Brecht’s original stage directions, reminding us that while the play is set in the 16th century, many of it’s themes are as relevant today.

In addition, everyone gets their turn on the Karaoke machine, with real live Karaoke in the interval, and the twelve songs in the play reimagined as Karaoke classics during the scenes.
